Haydan’s Story

KIDS CAN BE FUNNY…ASK HAYDAN

Haydan has just turned 3 and has Hyperplastic Left Heart Syndrome(HLHS). Haydan loves spiders and all bugs, also is an absolute water baby, loves water and holds his breath for a long time, he also loves most fruit and chocolate. Haydan has 2 younger brothers, twin Jordan and younger brother Kyle who is now 8 months old. Haydan has had stage 1 and 2 norwood operations and may head to Melbourne for stage 3 late this year. Haydans Oxygen Saturation levels usually sit around 75-80%.

We would like to share a few of his funny times..

Look a spider someone would say, Haydan would jump to alert saying” quick bip bip, it might bite you” and runs for toilet paper or a rock to get it and would say“its ok now everyone” One day he comes racing up to me and ask, “mum please take it off”, I ask what, “he says the yucky”, it was 2 freckles he has on his arm Another day Haydan lets out a fake cry and says Jordan hurt him, they had a little scuff over a toy, I said poor thing show me where it hurts, he lifts his shirt and points to his chest scar from his Open Heart Surgeries Sometimes when Haydan really wants what his brother has, he’ll put on a big show and say “ look Jordan a big spider on the roof”, Jordan looks and Haydan then takes the toy. One of his latest things, is yelling “ouch bubba bit me”, Kyle had no teeth.

This is a small section of Haydan’s report from Childcare which he attends once weekly

H is for HYPER..he has so much energy throughout the day
A is for AFFECTIONATE…he loves cuddles
Y is for yummy..he cooks up a storm in home corner
D is for DARING..he has no fear when he climbs on the equipment outside
A is for ACTIVE ..he enjoys moving and jumping around
N is for NUTCASE.. he’s a cheeky bundle of madness

Not quite what one would exspect for our HLHS child, or a child with such low Oxygen Saturation levels

Thanks for Reading and Please Take care
